A volume of papers presented in April 2005 at the symposium on “The Thought of Seth Benardete” is in press at Howard University. Its editor is Patrick Goodin. See the symposium program. Benardete’s translations of the Theaetetus, Sophist, and Statesman, originally published in three parts as The Being of the Beautiful, have been reprinted (Fall 2006) by the University of Chicago Press in a single volume of the same name.

Benardete’s doctoral dissertation, Achilles and Hector: The Homeric Hero, is available from St. Augustine’s Press.

Calum Carmichael’s Ideas and the Man: Remembering David Daube has been published by Klostermann Verlag. Daube was a thinker and scholar whom Benardete greatly admired.

Vincent Renzi’s review of Encounters and Reflections was published Nov. 26, 2003 in the Bryn Mawr Classical Review.

The Archive received a $10,000 grant from a foundation that recognizes the importance of Benardete’s work. The gift, which had been offered in early 2003 as a 2-for-1 challenge grant, matched donations from Benardete’s students, friends and colleagues. Many thanks to all who contributed.

Seth Benardete’s Second Sailing: On the Spirit of Ideas” (.pdf), an essay by Michael Davis, appears in The Political Science Reviewer, Vol. 32 (2003), 8-35. The Political Science Reviewer is a publication of the Intercollegiate Studies Institute.

Benardete’s last book, Encounters and Reflections: Conversations with Seth Benardete, with Robert Berman, Ronna Burger, and Michael Davis, and edited by Ronna Burger, was issued in February 2003 by University of Chicago Press.
